Lightening Talks

Fri, 15 September, 2023 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Speaker 1: Hua Liang, GWU

Title: Goodness-of-Fit for Model Checking

Abstract: This talk briefly introduces my research areas and reviews goodness-of-fit (GoF) for checking various models, such as partial linear models (PLM), high-dimensional linear models, dose-response models, GLM, and generalized functional regression models. I will illustrate the principle for general regression models.

Speaker 2: Hosam Mahmoud, GWU

Title: A Quick Glimpse at Urn Models and their Potential in Understanding Random Structures

Abstract: We take a quick glimpse at urn models, the variety of regimes within and and their potential in providing a probabilistic analysis of random structures. One example from random trees will be discussed, where a certain urn scheme is used to derive an exact distribution involving Eulerian numbers and an asymptotic Gaussian law.

Speaker 3: Tatiyana  Apanasovich, GWU

Title: Unveiling Insights: Association Rule Mining

Abstract: We'll begin with a brief introduction to the fundamental concepts of Association Rule Mining. Following that, we'll explore real-world examples to illustrate how this powerful data mining tool operates across various domains. Transitioning to the challenges and contributions from statisticians, we'll delve into topics like identifying statistically significant associations and reducing rule redundancy. In just 15 minutes, you'll witness the remarkable capabilities of Association Rule Mining and grasp its influence on decision-making. You'll depart with a newfound curiosity, eager to explore and apply this technique in your own data projects.
